Why This Background Fits Mission-Critical Work

Precision. Documentation. Rapid learning. Matthew’s career has consistently placed him in environments where systems had to work, deadlines were real, and mistakes had consequences.

    Mission-Critical Operations

Fox Sports Net Master Control required precision timing, live broadcast execution, commercial insertion, satellite coordination, and zero-margin-for-error decision making.

    Systems Integration

PRAN A/V and The Media Cottage involved hands-on installation, wiring, testing, calibration, troubleshooting, and support of enterprise video conferencing and multimedia systems.

    Technical Adaptability

From Atari BASIC in 1984 to Avid Media Composer, Pro Tools, live broadcast systems, AI Studio, Voice AI, and AI automation, Matthew has repeatedly learned new technology and applied it in real-world environments.

    Ownership and Execution

Twenty years running DeFranco Contracting and Pro Painting and ten years operating Chuck's Tubes required scheduling, logistics, hiring, training, customer service, budgeting, and project execution.

1992 β€” NEW BRAUNFELS HIGH SCHOOL

    Leadership & Journalism Foundation

The leadership and storytelling foundation was laid here in the Texas Hill Country. While running a mobile DJ and karaoke service in high school, Matthew helped launch the first live journalism television production at New Braunfels High School under the leadership of Ms. Kolache and the guidance of PRAN A/V. As a member of the original production team, he had the opportunity to learn from industry professionals Ed Wood and Jack Leach as they designed and installed the school’s television production equipment. Those early experiences sparked a lifelong passion for media production β€” and ultimately led to a professional position with PRAN A/V in New Braunfels.

Matthew's technical foundation came from PRAN A/V, where he installed and supported professional video conferencing, executive boardroom, interactive control, and enterprise audio/visual systems. Work included reading plans, pulling cable, terminating connectors, wiring racks, installing equipment, calibration, testing, troubleshooting, and client training.

    The DJ

EARLY ENTREPRENEURSHIP, EVENTS, AND LIVE PRODUCTION

Before the Art Institute. Before Fox Sports. Before any of it β€” there was the music. In high school, Matthew started a mobile DJ business alongside his father, Chuck Pusateri. The flyers weren’t printed β€” they were built. Literally cut from paper with scissors and taped together on a Xerox copy machine. That’s how Magical Music Sound Machine went to market. School dances, birthday parties, weddings, Project Graduation β€” hauling equipment, running the lights, reading the room, and moving the crowd. The business instinct didn’t start in a boardroom. It started with a mic, a turntable, and a hand-cut flyer.

    Art Institute of Houston

Matthew earned an Associate of Applied Science in Multimedia and Video Production in 1999. The curriculum focused on Avid Media Composer, Digidesign Pro Tools, and cutting-edge interactive systems like Macromedia Director and Lingo.

Film festivals. Helicopter shoots. Timecode logs on paper. A certified body cam operator β€” who had shot for the Houston Oilers, MLB, and NBA β€” walked into the Art Institute one day and demoed his rig. That demo turned into a two-week certification trip to California with fellow classmate Corey Snyder, trained by Advanced Camera on both the body cam system and the helicopter gyro cam. That’s the kind of school it was.

"It's never crowded on the extra mile."

β€” JR Griffith, Mentor & Professor

In 1997, while most people were still figuring out the internet, students at the Art Institute of Houston were handed a program called Macromedia Director and a coding language called Lingo β€” an if/then logic system used to build fully interactive CD-ROMs. It was as cutting-edge as it gets for the era. That foundation β€” learning to think in systems, logic, and interactivity before the tools even had names β€” is the same instinct that drives every automation, every workflow, and every platform build today.

Matthew’s broadcast and post-production internship was at New Century Sound β€” a professional audio post and sound design studio operating as a sister company to VT-TV within the same executive suite in Houston’s Galleria district, just off Post Oak Boulevard.

Vic T., owner of VT-TV, extended after-hours studio access to both interns. Fellow Art Institute student Corey Snyder worked late nights and weekends at VT-TV on the Avid Media Composer. Matthew ran parallel sessions next door at New Century Sound on Digidesign Pro Tools β€” logging real hours on voice-over recording, radio commercial production, DAT delivery workflows, commercial audio assembly, and sound design.

Those after-hours sessions β€” evenings, weekends, whatever it took β€” became the foundation of the Art Institute of Houston capstone demo reel, now preserved on YouTube.
